As an Albany, NY Wedding DJ for the last decade, I have seen thousands of first dances. Each moment is beautiful and intimate, but there are ways to make it more personal to you!
Think outside the box: alternate versions of your chosen song
i.e. acoustic versions, covers, live
Try and find "the perfect song": the more the song means to you the more special that moment will be. Try to think about a song from your past as a couple, a mutual favorite artist/band or even start looking within your favorite genres.
Practice Practice Practice: it doesn't need to be dancing with the stars but anything is better than 8th grade swaying. Give your guests something to watch while you have their attention
Shorten your moment: this is ideal for a more timid or shy couple who doesn't want too much of the spotlight. You simply only dance to roughly half the song.
Share that moment with your loved ones: Once your photographer has had enough time to capture the elegance of your first dance as one, allow your guests to be a part of that memory (also great for the shyer couples) by having them invited to the dance floor.
Add a Special Voice Recording: you create a little voice message that is played during the first dance as a special surprise for your soon to be spouse.
* At Maddalone Entertainment, I do a special gathering where once I have you both up on the dance floor, I invite all of you guests to come and form a circle around the dance floor. Essentially surrounding you in love and support. It really adds to the moment. *
